Tues/Thurs Class Blog: click here and scroll down to "Dalet 3/Hey 3"

Dear Hey 1 and 2 (Sun/Wed) (5th-grade) Parents,

We hope that you had an easy fast.

We are Mary Baumgarten and Susie Chalom - the team of teachers who are teaching your children this year. The first days of Talmud Torah have flown by, and we are getting into the flow of things. Thank you for trusting us to teach your children. You can be sure that we will do our best to make this year a productive and joyful one for your student.

In Torah Class, we spent the first lesson playing games that helped us get to know each other and have fun together. We asked each other funny questions that started with the words “What would you rather do …” and got to know a bit more about each other.

This past week we all celebrated Rosh Hashanah on Sunday and on Wednesday, in class, we learned vocabulary and facts about the basic structure of the Jewish Bible called “Tanakh” = stands for Torah ,Nevi’im (Prophets), and ChKtuvim (Chronicles and the rest of the books) and various terms of the Torah Service at the synagogue (Aliya, Haftara, Parasha, etc.)

Starting next week, our main focus will be the Book of Genesis (Be’Reisheet in Hebrew).

We urge you to partner with us by assuring that your student follows the guidelines we sent you at the beginning of the year. Students who abide by these guidelines are more focused and alert in class. We really need your support at home!

IMPORTANT: In Torah class, we will be using QUIZLET for new concepts and vocabulary in class. Here is the link. This link contains flashcards and games to help your child learn the concepts and vocabulary learned in class. Please remind them to play with it at least once a week.

In Hebrew and Judaica class (Mary), we have spent much time getting to know each other and getting comfortable with one another. Many of our activities were tied into the themes of the High Holidays. We used breakout rooms to group students together in a variety of ways. We saw several pertinent and fun videos, worked on some basic classroom Hebrew, played games, and even got in some art.

It is a true joy for us to be working with your children. Thank you for partnering with us as we make this a productive, engaging and joyful year!

L’hitraot,

Mary and Susie
